Lara Wierenga is a principal investigator on the Leiden Consortium of Individual Development. She received her PhD in 2016 at Brain Center Rudolph Magnus in Utrecht, where she focused on structural brain changes in typically and atypically developing children and adolescents. She continued this research at the University of California in San Diego, where she worked as a post-doc researcher. In her work she focusses on sex differences and similarities in brain structure and development. Her most recent work is devoted to a better understanding of genetic and environmental sex effects on brain development.
